Back to school

Haven't posted in one year! And here I am at Calhoun between my 101 classes (two of them this time). Listening to George Harrison's "33 1/3"

Good - Six Feet Under: Season One. I've had a lot of people on me to watch them. It's great.

Bad - Hot weather. I'll be glad when autumn finally gets here.

Indifferent - Anne Rice's Lasher. Actually, I'm enjoying it - and it's going places I didn't expect it to go. I just haven't been in the mood lately, but I'm forcing myself to finish it because whenever I put down a book I've put myself into for 250 pages, I never pick it up again, and I feel that it'll be worth it to finish.

School's back in session

Here I am at Calhoun between my 101 and 102 class. I'm trying to catch up on some blogging.

Listening to Philip Glass's Akhnaten on the IBM Glass Engine. It's free and great if you like that kind of thing.

Apologies to those who have been looking for new John notes this week at the band bible study site. As soon as school gets a little cooler, I paint those bookshelves, and Tom begins to sleep the night, I'm sure I'll be much more regular about things.

The Good, the Bad, and the Indifferent

The Good:

Battlestar Galactica: My friend J.P. let me borrow the first 2 DVD sets. I'm almost through with the first, and I've got to say it's been a long time since I've been excited by a TV series like that (well . . . the first season of Lost, which wasn't long ago, but I have more to say about that).

V for Vendetta: Janet and I saw it in Chattanooga. It was very well done. Natalie Portman was great, but what was amazing was how much emotion Hugo Weaving was able to put into his character even though he wore mask the entire time.

The Bad: I rented Walk the Line. I'm amazed at the good reviews. Reese Witherspoon was excellent, but that was about it.

The Indifferent: What the heck is going on in Lost? I keep waiting for it to "get good again." I remember there were a couple of clunkers in the first season, but this time it's ridiculous. Plus ABC isn't helping any by letting us go weeks at a time without a new episode. I guess I'm spoiled by having watched the first season on DVD.

That's all for now. My brother and niece are coming over for some fun with me and Kathleen.

More papers

I can't believe it's been two weeks since I was so excited about having all my papers graded. I have a stack even higher than that one that will probably take me all weekend to complete. I've got to figure out how to teach my writing class without any papers.

Anyway, the Oscars are this weekend. I predict Brokeback Mountain will win (haven't seen it). I used to see all the nominated films before the Oscars. But there's no time for that now. I did see Capote, and I hope that Philip Seymour Hoffman wins. I like him in everything he's in. I also hope that Reese Witherspoon wins. I'm going to try to watch Walk the Line in the next couple of days at least.

Well, back to work. I've got papers to grade and three articles to write for Who's Who in Huntsville.

Finished Grading Papers - Finally!

I finally finished grading the papers for my English 101 class. I hate it when this part-time job takes over my life. I spent all day yesterday and today working on them.

But it's done. I'll give them back tonight, and I won't have to worry about any new papers until Monday.

Tomorrow I need to go the gym and catch up on some National Guard stuff. The weather's great today - I hope it's like it this weekend.

My first post!

I've entered the world of weblog. What I'm going to do with it, I don't know, but here's my first blog.

I'll try to think of something profound to say for next time.
